The Christmas Tree Farm

By: Laurie Gilmore

“The lies we tell ourselves are often stronger than the truth. They worm their way into our hearts and our minds until they are all we see, all we believe.”

Kira North wanted to prove she could do something on her own, without the crutch of her twin, who just so happened to move to Denmark. So, Kira bought a Christmas tree farm, only she’s not a fan of Christmas. Bennett is visiting his sister and runs into Kira. He has a hero complex needing to help/save everyone. As they keep bumping into each other, and with Bennet continuing to help, they begin to spend more time together. He’s just visiting and she doesn’t do nice guys, so it’ll never work – Right?

I FINALLY read this author, and maybe I started the series out of order, but that’s okay! I may not know the back story to some of the characters, you don’t need it in order to enjoy this book in the series. I really enjoyed this one. I said it before and I’ll say it again – where are these small Christmas towns? I want to go!!!

Besides that, the chemistry between Bennet and Kira was fantastic. I loved her grumpiness, and the fact that she didn’t just jump a that chance to have Bennet fix everything for her. I get her trying to be independent. And as a few characters told her, being independent doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help! I think that’s hard for some people.

The cast of characters in this one was also great, from Bennet’s sister, to her friends, Ivy, and the townspeople. But the ones that stole the book were the dogs! I love a book with great dog characters, and these dogs made me smile. Especially because while Kira is grumpy, it’s the dogs that bring out her softer side at first.

This was an easy read, the writing flowed nicely and I was drawn into the characters, the story line, and rooted for them. It’s a great cozy Christmas read, with a little bit of spice.
