Inside Man

By: John McMahon

Many thanks to Minotaur Books for ARC of this book!

I loved Head Cases so I was so excited to read this one! This is another book in the “Head Cases” universe. We’re back with Gardner and the team in the PAR Unit (Patterns and Recognition). This time they are following a militia group that is stockpiling weapons and their confidential information is found in his home dead. They find an unidentified man on camera with him and now they need to find that man. He happens to be connected to another case – murdered women. As they conduct their investigation, the stakes escalate and everyone is in danger.

This is another great one by McMahon! This PAR unit is smart, very smart. Especially Gardner. His brain is like nothing I’ve ever read. His ability to recall information and retain information is absolutely amazing. I love that Richie, the teammate they call Rookie, really gets to shine in this book as well. Really, all of the teammates bring something special to the team and I love how well they work together.

This is one of those books where I would place bets that no one is going to be able to figure out what is going on and where the connections are. The book is action packed and there is never a moment that it lets up. McMahon just has this way with words, plots, and action. The intricate details of the investigations are just perfect.

While this is a second in the series, this can be read as a standalone. Though, I would suggest reading Head Cases first as the you’ll get to read a fantastic book and see the characters evolve.
