Apple Strudel

Many thanks to Happily Booked PR for the ARC of this book!

In this short book, we meet Violet who is 22 years old and in college for her associates degree. She didn’t have the greatest upbringing and at the age of 18, she took her younger sister in and made sacrifices to make sure her sister had what she needed. Then there’s Jasper, he’s 32 years old, built with tattoos, kind of nerdy – he loves Dungeon and Dragons – extremely shy, and a virgin. Violet asks Jasper out, and their romance is not like anything either have ever had.

I’m going to start with this, the cover is cute and the book is sorta sweet, but there is a small discussion of Violet’s past with self harm and alcoholic parents. It is not an in-depth discussion by any means. I think this was a missed opportunity to really go deep here and explore.

Violet was a really cute character. She was confident, funny, sassy, and loved being dominant. I enjoyed reading her character. While only 22, she read older than she was. Jasper on the other hand, I had a really hard time picturing him. He’s described as 32 years old, and I get he was inexperienced, but the word choices, how he spoke, it just read much younger. Because of that, I really struggled with his believability. There are some spicy scenes in this book. They started out okay, but then it got a little repetitive. Again, with Violet liking to be the dom, it could have gone further.

I will say, I did enjoy how accepting they were of each other, and how supportive Jasper was of Violet.

So all in all, just eh for me.
