The Engagement Ring Killer

By: Franklin Christopher

I’m not sure I would have picked this book up if it wasn’t chosen for our Instagram Advent Reads group. On the night of her engagement party, after a startling discovery, Mya leaves the party. She’s attacked in an alley and has her ring finger cut off. As days goes on, two other women are attacked and have their ring fingers cut off. Then, those two are murdered. Mya starts questioning every man in her life, could it be her fiancé? Her friend? Is Mya next to die?

I’ll start off with the positives here. The book was interesting. It keeps you on your toes and makes you keep reading. There are a few twists in here that I didn’t see coming. But also, I did make one correct guess pretty early on. I just wasn’t totally correct. It’s a short book and it reads fast.

That being said, I struggled with how bad this book is edited. I wanted to take my red pen out and start editing it! And it was simple things like opening and closing quotes properly. It really drives readers nuts. When an author is that sloppy and it feels like they don’t care, it makes me not want to care either.

Anyway, if bad editing doesn’t bother you, you may enjoy this one.
