Final Descent

By: Audrey J. Cole

Claire Winslow is divorced and had a breakdown after her divorce. Now, she’s finally getting her life back together. She’s an airline pilot and her friend convinced her to start dating. That’s where she meets Evan. He seemed great at first, but then his temper got the best of him. Evan begins to stalk her. He shows up at her daughter’s school, outside her house, at a hotel she’s staying at while working, and then he’s on the plane with her in the jump seat. Claire is convinced he’s after her, and potentially all of the passengers. But is this all in her mind? Is she having another breakdown?

This is a thriller novella. I enjoyed it up until the end. It was the epilogue/last chapter (to be honest, I don’t remember how it was labeled), that really just didn’t work for me. We get to the climax of the book, then we have our resolution, but I wanted more. How did that resolution come about? Well, we’re told, but I would have rather experienced it. I don’t want to say that it is because I don’t want to give anything away. One chapter ends, and then all of a sudden it’s 5 months later, and everything is all wrapped up in a little bow.

Aside from that, I really enjoyed the book. I thought the author did a great job of creating mystery around Evan. I also thought the author did a great job with one of the twists! One of them, while I didn’t see it coming, I could see happening for those characters. The other one, wow! I would have never known it was going to happen that way!

So if you’re looking for a quick read that’s enjoyable, and don’t mind a bit of a rushed ending that’s tied up in a bow, then check this one out!
