Ally Lockwood is going into her senior year of high school, and learns that her brother’s best friend, Chase, her enemy, is moving in with them for the year. She’s hated him for YEARS. While most girls swoon over Chase and throw themselves at him, Ally doesn’t. She’s desperate to get rid of him and her friends come up with a plan to get her dad to kick him out of the house. But the plan means that she has to convince Chase to date her, and then find a way for her dad to catch them.
This was a cute YA read. I read this for my book club. Were there some parts I didn’t like? Yes. But there were also some parts that I really liked.
I liked the enemies to lovers part of this story. I thought Chase and Ally were cute together, and the lead up to them realizing it was really cute. Did sometimes they talk not like they were teenagers in high school? Yes. Did I care? No.
There were a few things about the actions of the characters that I didn’t like. Presumably, this book is written for a teenage audience. Ally, to get noticed by Chase, lets her friends convince her to go to a club with a fake ID. While she is there, she decides to pole dance. Then there is quite a bit of underage drinking in the book. I get it, we all do things in high school that we shouldn’t. I certainly did. BUT, if I had a teenage child, I would not want them to read about this in a book. Especially early teens as they could just be learning about things. And I get my perspective is different because I’m older and a mom.
Aside from that, it was a cute book.
