By: Ashley Elston

“It’s not just the anatomy of an alibi – having someone vouch that you were somewhere else when the crime was committed – but it’s the psychology of it: A family member automatically brings skepticism, especially one who is “prepared,” as she put it.”
I know that there are a lot of 4 and 5 stars for this book, but for me it’s just a 3.5 star book. The plot of this one is very dense. So simply said, Camille comes home from being away and finds her husband, Ben, murdered in their home. The investigation ensues. Ben’s law partner, Hank, is there for Camille, but he also begins piecing together what Ben was doing that landed him killed. What results is a long, winding road to a conclusion.
I don’t want to say too much more about the plot because if you know too much, then it does give away the book. We have multiple points of view in this book, and three different frames of time: The Alibi, Before the Alibi, and After the Alibi. Though nothing takes place in order and jumps around a lot. If you’re not paying close attention, you can get lost – I did! Then it does become mostly after the alibi, and it was easier to follow. There were just SO many characters to have to remember.
Elston does a great job with weaving all the plot lines together, I could never had thought of all that and accomplished that in writing! The ending was awesome – I loved that Elston made the choice she did at the end.
Overall, a decent book, but not my favorite book I’ve read.
