“It’s so, so hard to live. And so, so easy to die.”
Ada Lamarr’s ship got into a crash, and she’s running out of oxygen. Another ship, the Halifax, rescues Ada, but they are not thrilled and they don’t trust her. Ada is loving her time on the Halifax. They have good food (good being subjective), oxygen, and handsome Rian White, the government agent in charged. Ada helps the Halifax complete a mission they is supposed to be a secret. But Ada isn’t who Rian thinks she is, or is she?
I thought this was going to be more of a romance than anything and I was very wrong. It was more sci-fi than anything. At only 153 pages long, this book fails to really have the “love interests” connect. All they do is look at each other, has *some* banter, and if I remember correctly, one kiss. That does not a romance make. And this is a series, so maybe more of the romance comes later.
They talk about different earths in this book, but there is no background on anything that’s happened, how all these earths came about, and what certain things mean. I felt kind of lost with all that talk. And yes, I don’t always love so much in depth details, but a brief summary overview would have been helpful.
I was invested in Ada. She’s a looter and I wanted to know what her game plan was. And while others figured it out early, I did not. I found that aspect to be very clever.
It’s a fast, easy read. So if you need a palette cleanser and like Sci-Fi, I suggest you give this one a try!
