Hannah is on spring break with her best friend, Emmy, and Emmy’s family, including her brother whom Hannah has had a crush on. Emmy meets Ben, and now Hannah is third wheeling it. Ben takes them out to the market, and then suggests going sailing the next day. Ben finds the one person who agrees to sail among those that will not due to a storm rolling in. So Emmy, Hannah, Ben, and Emmy’s brother, Jackson, all board this sailboat in hopes to make it back to the marina before the storm hits. But things are happening onboard that are just as dangerous as the storm that’s rolling in.
I really love Megan Lally’s books. For me, there is something special about her writing, her story telling, and the fact that she writes these crazy thrillers yet at the end, I wind up shedding a tear or two. It happened in That’s Not My Name and now again in this one.
Lally so artfully creates this suspense that builds throughout the book. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, and makes you want to keep reading. I devoured this book it’s that good. I pushed aside all my responsibilities just so I could finish it! I loved *most* of the characters, Hannah, Emmy, and Jackson. Ben was NOT my favorite. I didn’t like him from the first moment he was introduced into the book.
These characters go through a lot. And there are a lot of happenings that I didn’t see coming. I’ll admit, I thought this book was going to go one way when I started reading it. I did question myself a bit too. There is what I would call a big twist at the end that left me reeling. I love when that happens! Again, there was a conversation at the end between two characters that made me shed a few tears. I love that Lally is able to do this.
