Trigger Warning – Suicide and Mental Health
Something isn’t quite right with Kendra Sibley. She is not her normal self. Her mother recognizes this and takes her to see a therapist. The therapist finds out that Kendra is suicidal and recommends that Kendra be put into a facility to help her get better. So Kendra’s mother brings her to Aiken’s Haven. It’s a psychiatric hospital but it looks like resort and it seems like a great place for Kendra to go. However, both of them soon find out that Aiken’s Haven is not what it seems to be. Kendra could possibly be in harm’s way rather than getting the help that she needs. Kendra’s godmother, Maddie, tries to help the best that she can, but winds up putting her life in danger. What is going on at Aiken’s Haven, and can either or both of them make it out alive?
I love medical thrillers, and this one did not disappoint. I like this different take on patients at a psychiatric hospital. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give anything away! The book was a fast read, and it kept my attention from beginning to end. My absolute favorite character was Maddie, I felt she was very smart and resourceful.
My issue with the book is that there are some grammatical issues – names spelled wrong, other words spelled wrong, and missing quotations. Also, the ending felt a bit rushed. I felt like everything tied together, but you find out from one character in the Epilogue what happened rather than experiencing it along with the character.
Overall, a good read. You can get your copy here.
