“All humans make mistakes. What determines a person’s character aren’t the mistakes we make. It’s how we take those mistakes and turn them into lessons rather than excuses.”
Lily Bloom had a difficult childhood. She also had a dream of leaving her hometown in Maine, and opening up her own flower shop, which she accomplished in Boston. There she meets Ryle Kincaid – handsome, smart, assertive, but also sensitive. He is also a successful neurosurgeon. However, Ryle quickly tells Lily he’s not a girlfriend guy, but Lily finds herself being an exception to that rule. As things progress with Ryle, and there are some rocky moments, thoughts of her first love, Atlas Corrigan, come into her mind. When Atlas suddenly reappears, Lily and Ryle’s relationship is threatened.
This book was unexpected for me – I didn’t read the synopsis, I just dove right in, unsure of what I was going to get. What I got was book filled with so much emotion, emotions of all kinds, that blew me away. Hoover has such a way with words that they float off the page and into your heart. While I enjoyed Lily and her honesty, my favorite character was Allysa, her best friend. Allysa was there for her, supporting her at a terrible time, and took her side even when Allysa had a very good reason not to. I flew through this book, unable to put it down. While there were some things that felt a bit rushed, overall, the book really makes you think and really makes you feel.
I can’t wait to read the next one when that comes out. If you haven’t read this one yet, you can get your copy here.
