Jenny Miller has always had disturbing and intrusive mental images full of death and harm. She is constantly trying to root herself back into reality, but she doesn’t know whether anyone else in her family has ever suffered the same way. Her mother has always kept her past hidden, so Jenny knows nothing of it. When they must return to her mother’s hometown to sell her childhood home, Jenny starts to delve into her mother’s past, to find out what she is hiding, and more about the family. She finds a hidden journal with horrid pictures, a local woman goes missing, and suspicions turn towards Jenny and her mother. To prove their innocence, they need to come face to face with a killer, but as the truth is revealed, can Jenny save herself, and her mother?
Wow! What a book! From the moment the book begins, the anxiety from Jenny is palpable. Duncan packs layer upon layer of mystery into this book! The book starts out using Jenny chapters as what is happening currently and using “Then” chapters to reveal hints about the past. The book then progresses with Jenny chapters and “Now” chapters once there is a revelation. The “Then” chapters are very ominous. Towards the end, there is a moment that will leave you with your mouth agape, but that’s not where it ends. What a fantastic thriller! A must read for any thriller lover.
