“And I get it. As much as I hate him . . . I think I’m starting to like us.”
Olive has always felt unlucky in life, as opposed to her twin, Ami. Olive is in Ami’s wedding, a wedding that Ami funded by winning various items, including a seafood buffet. When at the wedding, the guests that eat the seafood buffet get sick, Ami offers for Olive to go on her honeymoon. Afterall, she won it, and there is no rescheduling – it’s use it or lose it. Ami’s now husband, Dane, offers the honeymoon to his brother, Ethan. Olive and Ethan do not like each other. Olive remembers the first time she met Ethan and how judgmental he was. But they each need a vacation and decide to go together. While in Maui, Olive runs into her new boss and pretends she’s married. Now they have to keep up the rouse.
The Unhoneymooners is one of the wittiest romantic comedies that I have read it in a long time. My favorite part about this whole book was the banter back and forth between Olive and Ethan – especially when they called each other the wrong names on purpose. Olive is smart, sassy, clever, and funny – that kind of banter is what I enjoy in a relationship. The family dynamic between Olive, her sister, and the rest of her family feels honest. I love how even though things went wrong for Ami, she wasn’t super self deprecating and also supported Olive as much as she could. Overall, a fantastic read and one that I would highly recommend to anyone that loves to read romantic comedies.
