Playing Nice

By: J.P. Delaney

“Psychopaths are like tone-deaf people at a concert, mocking those who cry at the beauty of the music as fools.

This was a good one. Peter Riley and his partner Maddie Wilson find out that the baby that they took home from the hospital, Theo, two years ago wasn’t their own child. The babies had been switched at birth. Miles and Lucy Lambert have their child, Daniel. The two sets of parents agree to keep the kids where they are and to still be a part of the other child’s life. Things seemed to be going okay, though Miles liked to just show up at their house whenever. Then, Pete gets served with court papers – Miles wants both boys. Now, Pete and Maddie are in the fight of their life to be able to keep their child.

I REALLY loved the concept of this book. It was something different than what I have read. I’d categorize this one as a legal drama or legal thriller. There are some chilling things that happen in this book.

I felt so bad for Miles and Maddie. Miles was a jerk and he was definitely used to getting his own way. He really was disturbing. I also felt bad for Lucy, but I can’t say more than that without giving anything away.

There was a ton of focus on Theo but not that much focus on Daniel. I wish the author would have explored the relationships with Daniel more, and we learned more about his medical needs.

This did drag on a bit. I was interested in reading it, but I wasn’t riveted. There were some scenes that could have been cut out to make the book read faster, I just skimmed those. So other than the fact that it dragged on it a bit, it was a very good book.
