The Stranger

By: Kiersten Modglin

Many thanks to Kiersten Modglin for the ARC of this book!

Wow, what a book! Walker meets Tibby walking on the side of the road in the middle of a snowstorm. He convinces her to get in his car and they drive, trying to make it to the nearest town. They wind up stopping at a motel – but they really don’t know each other. The motel owner seems to be missing, the news alerts everyone that two kids are missing, and the tires on Walker’s care are slashed. Everyone seems to have a secret, who can anyone trust?

The chapters regarding Tibby and Walker are interspersed with chapters from a killer – but who is that killer? I really thought I had it this time. I thought I was clever, and I just wasn’t, once again. I don’t know how Modglin continues to trick me!!! The scenes and the moods were set perfectly. Modglin created a creepy atmosphere that stayed creepy. It really was the perfect setting for this book.

The ending, oh the ending. I want more, and in a number of ways for a few different characters. But that’s all I can say because I don’t want to spoil anything!

There were some other characters that I wish were explored a little more but overall, this was a fantastic book. It’s a quick read because Modglin’s writing just flows so well.
