The Way You Are

By: Sybil Kelton

Many thanks to the author for the ARC of this book!

Jules is a teacher and the coach of the girls soccer team. She’s never been the typical girl. She’s not petite and what people generally call pretty. She’s tall, with broad shoulders, a hard jaw and was called an ogre growing up. Evan is also a teacher and the coach of the boys soccer team. He’s handsome, but slightly immature. With funding for sports being cut, there’s only room to pay one coach – the one that actually wins. Jules is determined to win, even though whenever she’s around Evan, she gets butterflies in her stomach. The more time they spend with each other, his confidence cracks and her hard shell does as well. But at what cost?

This book is going to speak to anyone who has ever felt different, whoever felt like they were meant to be eternally single and alone, whoever felt really insecure. On the surface, Jules and Evan seem so different. But deep down, they really do have more in common than meets the eye. They connect on a deeper level than I thought they would. It was really nice to read. He was patient with her, very sweet with her, and tried really hard to get her to see herself the way that he saw her.

It was so easy to feel bad for Jules. I also got made fun of in school, though for different reasons. There was also another character, Chloe, that for which my heart broke. She was a student in an awful home situation. She acted out because of it, but Jules knew she was important to the soccer team and found a place for her.

There’s so much to like with this book! It’s out now, so grab it!
