After retiring from the police force, Sue and Mal Eastwood run a pub in an isolated part of England called The Case is Altered. Every Monday, the pub hosts a trivia night for teams of no more than 6. When a new team, The Shadow Knights, comes to trivia, the regulars get upset since The Shadow Knights start always winning. Before they retired, Mal and Sue were involved in a police operation, which is the reason for their retirement. Whatever happened during that operation has caught up with them. Now it’s five years later and their nephew wants to make a documentary about his aunt and uncle – what exactly happened there?
I picked this book up based on another review I saw and because I really do enjoy book that use mixed media. This story is told through emails, text messages, interviews, and recorded conversations. Usually for me that means it’ll be a quick read. Unfortunately, this did not happen here. At almost 450 pages, this book dragged on and on.
I fully admit that I didn’t read the premise of the book before reading it. I honestly didn’t know the point of the book at all until I was pretty far into the book. I was kind bored reading the book for the most part and I felt like it was a chore to read it. I actually forced myself to read it as I actually wanted to DNF the book. It wasn’t until the end of the book that it got interesting. There were some twists at the end, but they were ALL at the end. I didn’t see the twists coming, but I also didn’t really care as I was reading the book.
I don’t know, I’m disappointed that I didn’t like this book. I had such high expectations based on what I saw on insta. Unfortunately, this book was not for me. I’m an outlier though as a lot of people loved it! So check it out!

Well, it was clever, but I didn’t care for too many of the characters. Maybe that’s why you didn’t like it.
