You Girls Play Nice

By: K.D. Aldyn

Many thanks to Poisoned Pen Press for the ARC of this book!

When their friend Helen was murdered, Sue, Jackie, Rebel, and Willow fully expected the murderer to be convicted. Alas, he was found not guilty. The girls decided to get revenge, but just hypothetically. They each came up with a way to kill him, but never intended to do it. But then murders occur that are in the exact ways they came up with. Suspicions are now on the 4 girls, and they have to figure out who was behind it all.

I really wanted to like this book, the premise sounded really great! However, I think that the book needs editing to make it more exciting. Unfortunately, there was so much back story which messed with the pace of the book. And some of this back story is very unnecessary – it didn’t push the story forward. There are also multiple points of view, but the chapters aren’t labeled with this and so context clues are needed in order to figure it out. Also, with the multiple points of view, one of them is told in first person and the rest are told in third person. I’m personally just not a fan of that switch.

After I got through all of the unnecessary back story, it did get a little better. But at that point, I wasn’t invested in the story. When there is a reveal at the end, which I’m sure was meant to be a jaw dropping moment, I just didn’t care.

However, there are some great reviews of this book, so this is likely a me problem! As always, take what I say with a grain of salt! Check this one out, give it a try!
