Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press & Minotaur Books for the ARC of this book!
10 Years Ago, Scout Sage’s sister was murdered and she’s been looking for answers every since. She thought she knew who did it, but never had the evidence to prove it. Along with other Hollywood women, they form a group of women that are always there for each other. Now there have been a string of murders and it looks like Scout and her group, The Hot Girl Murder Club, are behind them. The detective who is working the case is no stranger to trauma and loss, begins to reveal secrets that were never meant to come to light.
I feel like I may be an outlier here. This book is not bad by any means. It’s just not as thrilling and suspenseful as I wanted it to be with a name like “Hot Girl Murder Club.” The books of course has differing timelines. But there seemed to be about three different time lines, the distant past, the present, and then a recent past. The chapters were all labeled, so that made it easy to follow. There were a lot of characters, and a lot of different story lines that you need to follow. Honestly, it was a lot. Not only did I have to make sure to keep it all straight, but keeping it all in my mind was draining and kind of boring. It really dragged the book out.
The book does touch on subjects like the Hollywood elite and how they make things happen or make things disappear. It talks about the power imbalance between men and women in the industry as well, along with what some may do just to get a break.
There was twist that I didn’t see coming, so I did enjoy that. Ultimately, I thought the ending was pretty satisfying. Readers of popcorn thrillers will really like this one. I just needed more action, more thrills, and less story lines.
