All Good People Here

By: Ashley Flowers

Amazing debut novel by Crime Junkies Podcast host, Ashley Flowers.

When Margot Davies was 6 years old, the little girl across the street, January Jacobs, was murdered.  There was never an arrest made.  Margot is now grown up, and a newspaper reporter.  When she returns to her hometown to help take care of her sick uncle, a news blast occurs – Natalie Clark, a little girl from the next town over is missing.  Margot now vows to find Natalie’s and figure out who killed January.  But as she starts probing, she realizes that everyone is hiding something.  Who kidnapped Natalie, and who killed January?  Is it the same person?

Hands down, this is a 4 star debut novel.  It started off strong, and just continued that way. Told in alternating time periods, we learn what people thought happened in 1994, and what Margot is discovering in her current investigation in 2019.  It seemed to me that Flowers was inspired, for lack of a better word, by the Jean Benet Ramsey case.  Either way, there were tiny twists along the way and a few bigger ones towards the end.  Most of them I never saw coming! I will say this – Flowers provided a huge tell as to January’s murderer.  I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else, so I won’t explain what the tell is, but due to it, I sort of figured out who the killer was easily.
