Celia Guest’s life wasn’t always what it is today. She has a wonderful husband, a nice home, she gets to travel, and she has great friends. Her husband, Rob, plans a 40th birthday party for her, and while he said no gifts, her friends don’t listen. When she couldn’t sleep that night, she decided to open her presents. Among the wonderful and beautiful gifts was a note – “You don’t deserve any of this.” Celia needs to breathe. She leaves her husband and note and goes for a drive. She parts at the Metro station and takes a train. Then suddenly, Rob doesn’t hear from her for days. Her phone is off, and they have no idea where she is. Her sister, Genevieve, tries to do what the police aren’t doing – investigate the disappearance of her sister. As she pieces things together, a secret is revealed from Celia’s childhood that can break her family.
Gone Again is my first novel by Kent. I had high hopes for this novel as I heard that Unmissing was a great book. However, I think I set my expectations too high. Don’t get me wrong, this is a good book. But it’s just that, a good book – not fantastic or amazing. It is told from multiple points of view, and in two differing time periods, which at first, gets very confusing if you’re not paying close attention. After I got a handle on that, I did enjoy reading the book. However, there was just nothing particularly gripping or thrilling about the book. It is more of a mystery than a thriller. There were a few moments that I didn’t see coming, but since the build up of them wasn’t great, the shock wasn’t that great either. Overall, it is a good book, and perfect for any mystery reader.
