By: Alice Feeney

“Home isn’t always where the heart is; sometimes home is where the hurt lives.”
Eden Fox and her husband Harrison Woolfe moved into Spyglass, a house in Hope Falls. She’s about to have her gallery showing and prior to, she decides to go out for a fun. When she returns home, her key to the house doesn’t work. Another woman opens the door claiming to be her, and Harrison’s wife. Six months prior to this, a woman named Birdy received a fatal diagnosis and inherits Spyglass house from her grandmother. She quickly sells it, but not before coming across some important mail that her grandmother received. With this information, Birdy visits a clinic to find out her date of death.
I’ll be honest, I pretty much went into this blind. I know I’ve read the synopsis before, but by the time I read the book, I had forgotten it. This book really exhibits Feeney’s talent as an author. With her ability to succinctly describe the settings enough that you get the full picture and can feel like your there, and her ability to write twists that are never seen coming, Feeney is an another that you can rely on to write an amazing book.
I knew that all these characters that seemingly didn’t seem like they would fit together, would make sense at some point. And when it came together for me, I thought that I had figured it out. Whew.. I was WRONG! Feeney tricked me and tricked me but good! I couldn’t put this one down, I had to know what was happening and how all the pieces were going to fit together. And while there were quite a number of reveals and twists, the one that got me the most was the last chapter. My mind was blown!
With the need to know how the puzzle pieces fit together, my heart was racing the entire time. It seemed like every chapter either gave you a crumb or an answer, but also gave you more questions. I don’t know how else to describe this book other than it’s so well written.
I didn’t love all of the characters and I don’t think I was meant to. Some of them I didn’t care much about, and others left me curious. But this cast of characters, personalities and all, were perfect for the storyline.
So if you like to read fantastic thrillers, and you can’t read this one yet, please do yourself a favor and pick this one up!
