Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press and St. Martin’s Griffin for the ARC Of this book!
Arielle Becker always seems to be the bridesmaid and never the bride. But that’s because she doesn’t want to be. She likes to have fun, to an extent, but doesn’t ever see herself settling down. Judah Klein is the tri-state area’s most sought after Modern Orthodox wedding singer. He’s single, but he’s dated. He follows his religious beliefs when it comes to dating and marriage. He thinks he’ll be single for life – he’s never felt any spark or instant attraction. He’s always wanted to settle down, have a wife, and have kids. Too bad the ONE person he’s attracted to doesn’t want that. They decide to have some fun for a while and then go their separate ways. But is that all it was? A little bit of fun?
I wanted to enjoy this one more than I did. I did enjoy it to an extent. I like the premise of the book – a constant bridesmaid and wedding singer? Yes please! I think where it got lost for me was that a lot of what was said and thought became very repetitive. The reasoning that these characters felt like they couldn’t be together just kept being repeated over and over. As a reader, I understood the first and/or second time. It just became too much. These characters were 29 and 33 years old, but the felt much younger in maturity. When they were together, I did like them together.
I also struggled with how Judah did a 180 in what felt like seconds. Before Ari, he’d never so much had touched a woman on the shoulder, and now all of a sudden he’s dirty talking and amazing with foreplay.
I did enjoy the Jewish culture and traditions woven into the story. I learned things that I didn’t know.
Anyway, this is just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt, and check this one out for yourself!
