Reality Bites

By: Amy Mass

Many thanks to Harper Perennial and Amy Mass for the gifted copy of this book!

Grace Lambert is different from the rest of her family. They are all influencers and she is a scientist trying to save frogs. Grace’s mom signs her up for a dating reality tv show, and when she speaks to the show’s lawyer, Andrew, she hangs up on him. Reality TV is not Grace’s thing – she’s never even watched it! But when the funding for her lab disappears, she decides to go onto the show to win the money and use it for the lab. When Grace arrives for the show on set, she’s like a fish out of water. On top of that, she’s outspoken and it drives Andrew mad. But Grace continues on the show for as long as she can. While she’s in it for the money, will she also find love?

Mass jumps into the romance book scene with a splash! This is her debut novel, and I cannot wait to read more by Mass! This is fun and flirty, definite summer vibes. Grace may be an “odd duck” of her family and while she thought her differences separated her from her family, it’s her family that rallies around her in this book, and I loved every minute of that. All families and all people are different, but that doesn’t mean that the differences need to put a wedge in between relationships. While Grace showed up to the reality show thinking she knew the kind of people were going to be on the show, she was pleasantly surprised with some of the contestants.

I LOVED the witty, quick banter that Grace had in the book. Yeah, she was a little quick to judge at times, but she learned her lesson. She realized that social media can be used for good, and it’s not just for vapid people. Her growth throughout the book was really something to see/read. I enjoyed the types of other contestants that Mass chose for the reality show. And while the producer seemed a little nasty, I think deep down, she was doing what she had to. Andrew was fantastic. He cared about all of the contestants, and he cared especially about Grace 😉

This book was so easy to read – the words and the scenes – everything just flowed so nicely. I read this book is less than a day!
