Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press & Minotaur Books for the ARC of this book!
Isobel is journalist who goes undercover at the Himlafall Clinic, a medical clinic where you pay to stay for a week to help heal you from heartbreak or picking the wrong partners. She thinks that there is something more nefarious happening here at the clinic, and it is all at the hands of it’s owner and main psychiatrist, Dr. Martina Hastings. Armed with a backstory, a hidden cell phone, and a recorder, Isobel is ready to break this story. But once she gets there, things don’t go as planned. Her contact inside isn’t there, Dr. Hastings knows how to get to her, and she’s getting an eerie feeling that maybe she shouldn’t have come.
I gave this book 3.5 out of 5. After reading the premise of this book, I was looking forward to reading it. However, I thought it was just okay. It isn’t a terrible book by any means, but I think I was expecting more. It took a little bit to get into the story, and even as things at the clinic began happening, it all started rather slowly. When the pace and action picked up, it was really good. It just felt like it dragged a bit until then. I wasn’t excited to pick this one up, I didn’t HAVE to know how it was all going to end that I couldn’t put it down.
That being said, when the action picked up, there was at least 1 twist that I didn’t see coming, so I was shocked. And when I say that the action picked up, I mean it really picked up. There was a lot happening and I wasn’t sure who to trust! However, because the action picked up so close to the end, it did feel a bit rushed to me.
I know others have loved this, so like always, this is just my opinion! It’s an okay book; I still do encourage those that like thrillers to read this one because you may enjoy it!
