“It strikes me that, with all the cruelties in this world, there is still nothing quite as dangerous as kindness.”
Eighty-One year old Elsie Mabel Fitzpatrick lives on Kenny Lane, and has lived there a while. She mainly keeps to herself; no one would suspect the past she has. When Roxanne moves to the neighborhood with her daughter Persephone, an unlikely friendship forms between Persephone and Elsie. When there’s an occurrence at a neighbors house, Elise’s past comes back into the light. Who exactly is Elise?
I saw so many good reviews for this book but it was a bit of a let down for me. I just expected something more twisty, more thrilling. Really this is a slow burn suspense book with maybe one or two surprises that I didn’t see coming.
The book is told in the present and the past. And while the past chapters are in there because Elsie is doing an interview with YouTubers, a lot of it is boring, added filler (at least in my opinion).
I felt very underwhelmed reading the book, a little bored. I’ve read this author before and enjoyed their books. But this one did not work for me. However, I am an outlier and tons of people loved this one!
