Many thanks to Get Red PR for the ARC of this book!
Sin makes the decision to move back to DC from New York as her relationship pewters out and her career is on a downward spiral. At least she’ll be near family. She was an investigative journalist in NY, but now in DC she’s writing advice columns, and she’s seemingly happy to. Until a new lead falls into her lap and she can’t help but investigate. At the same time, she meets Kwame, the perfect specimen. A lawyer, a gentlemen, he makes her laugh, and the physical attraction is beyond. While Sin has kept her new investigation under wraps from Kwame, unbeknownst to Sin, he’s tangled up it.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading this book. The description of the book doesn’t make known that what Sin is investigating is art theft. I thought it was going to be ALL about art, but it is SO much more than that.
This book has it all – romance, suspense, intrigue, interesting and complicated family dynamics, and shady characters. All of these things written together make for a fantastic, page turning read! This is a duet, so the book is not wrapped up by the end. However, knowing that going in makes it easier. I do want to know when the next one is coming out because I can’t wait to read it and see how everything turns out.
The romance between Kwame and Sin does seem a little fast, but not too fast. It did start on attraction but it blossomed into so much more. And I LOVE how her family invited him to Sunday meals and accepted him, before Sin and Kwame were a thing. Her family may not be perfect but they are awesome.
I love the cultural references in this book. Both of the characters’ families are from Ghana. There were nuggets throughout the book about the culture and I loved learning about it!
Like I said, I can’t wait for the next book in this duet! Check this one out!
