Many thanks to Simon and Shuster for the ARC of this book!
Ellie moves into Delaney Row, a place where no one knows her name, her past, or anything about her. But just like her, the house has secrets. So does someone else, who keeps entering the house without being invited, and Ellie doesn’t know who it is. She meets the people in her neighborhood and begins to piece together what’s happened at that house, revealing its secrets, as well as facing hers.
I’ve read this author before, so reading this book was an easy choice. However, this isn’t the chilling thriller that I wanted it to be. This is such a slow burn mystery/thriller. I mean, it’s really slow. The story is told through three different points of view, Ellie, Hannah, and Erin, and two different timelines, past and present. I was really confused at first how this all connected, but it did eventually make sense. It just took a bit to get there.
On top of that, there were quite a few side characters to keep track of, Sophie, her brother (his name escapes me right now), Annaliese or Annabelle (I can’t remember), Steve, and more. It was just a lot.
I ending and revealing of twists was good, but by the time I got there, I just didn’t care that much. I did like the way that the author chose to end the book, it felt different from other books that I’ve read.
This one just didn’t land for me like other books by this author. But that’s okay – that’s just my opinion! A lot of people seemed to really like it, so check it out – especially if you like a slow burn mystery!
