Emery Finch is a doctor and a scientist. Three years ago she did something completely not like herself and got married to Luca. Since then, there’s been missed dinners, forgetting anniversaries, all in the name of science. Emery works for a top secret company, doing something that even her husband doesn’t even know about. When she goes to meet him the night of their anniversary, Luca is hit by a car. Without thinking, Emery does what she has to do, and she brings him back. When he wakes up, he doesn’t remember her, or anything. Emery looks at it as her second chance with her husband and she isn’t going to waste it.
This was such a fantastic book! Definitely a 4.5 star book and seemingly different from anything that I’ve read by these authors. Full disclosure, I didn’t read the synopsis. I just saw the authors and said “I want to read it!”
I really enjoyed Emery in STEM, and such a top secret project! It’s science that makes you think – is this actually possible? Emery also had a fantastic character arc in the book. She went from basically married to her work/addicted to her work, never being home, never being around, to suddenly taking time off from work to care for Luca, reconnecting with him, and ultimately making the best decision for them.
There is a mystery element to this book as well. I don’t want to give anything away, but the mystery is really good and it resolves in a high action moment that blew me away. I didn’t see any of this coming. And I loved every minute of it.
I also really enjoyed learning how Emery and Luca met, and Emery and Luca finding each other again as he slowly regains his memory.
I’m always ready for the next Christina Lauren book!
