How to Kill a Crime Writer

By: Sarah Lotz

Many thanks to Berkley Publishing for the ARC of this book and the stop on the book tour!

Annie Morrissey is a crime writer, writing a crime series that is beloved. Unfortunately she died, falling off a ladder. When her daughter Niamh goes to her cottage to take care of things, she beings to question whether her mother’s death was really an accident. With the help of Leah, the main character in her mother’s crime novels, they set out to solve the mystery, along with Brian, the cat.

This book is perfect for those that like a slow burn, cozy mystery. The book has some laughs, has some crazy moments, and a fictional character come to life! For those reasons, it’s an enjoyable read.

It was a little hard for me to get into, I don’t love a slow burn. Reading the title and the synopsis, I think I expected something more thrilling and less cozy. So I think if you go into it knowing that it’s cozy, knowing that it’s a slow burn, it’s super enjoyable.

There are great conversations and banter between Niamh and Leah, and I loved Brian the cat. I also really enjoyed the ending, when they revealed the circumstances around Annie’s death. I thought it was going one way and then it pivoted and I was actually shocked!

So if slow burn, cozy mysteries are your thing, check it out!
