Many thanks to Ballantine Dell for the ARC of this book!
Juliette Marchmont becomes the first ever female F1 driver. She needs to be focused and prove all those saying women shouldn’t be in the sport wrong. She has a lot of people to prove wrong, including some that work with her – so the pressure is on. On top of that her teammate is the one that broke her heart – Dominic Hastings. Hastings was released from his father’s team after a terrible season. Dominic and Juliette butt heads on and off the track. But there is an undeniable pull between them, even if Juliette maintains that she hates Dominic. As they go through the season as teammates, they keep getting drawn together and the attraction grows. But there can’t be any distractions. Only one driver can be the champion and each will do whatever it takes for it to be them.
I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump and this book pulled me out of it! I love racing romances. I don’t know much about F1 as I’ve only just recently (within the last 2 years) have started to watch NASCAR. But I’m learning! Anyway, you don’t need to know much about F1 to enjoy this book.
I LOVED that this was about a woman entering the sport. I felt like the author stayed true to the reaction – a lot of naysayers, people believing that she may have done something to get to the top, or it was because of her brother, or getting deals just because she was a woman. BUT, Juliette is a bada$$ in the car. She’s smart and strategizes well.
It’s clear from the beginning that there is a past between Dominic and Juliette. We get to learn about this past through the few chapters that are in the past – which are clearly labeled. It’s also clear that Dominic still has feelings for Juliette, but that he did something to hurt her. We do learn what that is eventually. I love how much he cares about her, even when she’s telling him that she hates him. He wants to protect her and only wants what is best for her.
Their chemistry is undeniable. I was able to feel it between them as I read the book. There are definitely some hot and spicy moments between the two as well.
All around, this is a really great read!!!
