About The Book
When Georgia’s boyfriend Sam tells her he’s meeting up with his ex, she’s living every girlfriend’s worst nightmare. Because it’s not just any ex, it’s his first love – the relationship everyone thought would last forever. Convinced she’s one pinot-grigio-fuelled evening away from having to argue custody of their beloved cat, she turns to her work husband for help.
Jamie fixes all Georgia’s work crises (like that time she jammed the printer so badly it started smoking…) so when he suggests faking a romance to make Sam jealous, she’s all ears. After all, he’s already her work husband, how hard can it be to pretend he’s something more?
From flirty texts to a dangerous number of G&Ts in the local pub, Jamie’s declarations of love soon start to get out of hand. Suddenly, Georgia’s not sure her work husband was the best choice to help her keep hold of her (hopefully) future husband.
Georgia has watched enough romcoms to know office romances are not a good idea and, as she soon finds out, even fake ones can be dangerous… Is she prepared for what happens when fake dating turns out to be not so fake after all?
My Review
I was not expecting this book to go in the direction that it did. I expected a workplace romance and that is not what this was – at all.
When we meet Sam and Georgia together, they are really sweet. But then his ex comes back into the picture, and he made everything sound so shady. Yes he was going to see her, and no, he wasn’t going to tell Georgia why. I get that he wanted to keep Ava’s secret, but come on! What woman in her right mind isn’t going to start to wonder? There was a way for him to tell her that it was private without revealing what it was, which would have been better than saying something like “yes I’m going to see her and no I’m not telling you anything more.”
Georgia had more patience with Sam than I would have, at least I think so. But I get it, when you’ve been with someone for that long, you don’t want to believe that your significant other would do anything wrong.
Jamie on the other hand turned out to be something that I didn’t expect at all. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want to give anything away.
I’ll say this, I enjoyed the ending, a lot. I like that the ending felt realistic. My only remaining issue is that Sam found a letter and it was never truly addressed.
