Halo Shepard is the daughter of a Branded Bloodlines kingpin ruler, and he’s already sold her hand in marriage. Tatum Beauchamp is the third in line to a powerful crime family, and he’s also the one that sleeps around. Which he did, with Halo. Only, he didn’t know who she was. Halo and Tatum enter a marriage so that Halo’s father doesn’t kill Tatum. They were supposed to get through a few months and then walk away from each other. Instead, there is a feud and now they must fight together or not survive at all.
I am currently in my mafia romance (and dark romance) era, so this book was perfect for me! I think the way that the book started off was different and interesting. It really grabbed my attention. I love that Tatum was not the typical mafia guy (that’s all I’m going to say as I don’t want to spoil anything) and when it came to Halo, he took things seriously. Halo was a fantastic MMC. At first, she seemed to be stronger than him in will and in power. That was a really enjoyable dynamic. It was so easy to root for them to get together!
Another aspect of this book that I really enjoyed was all the action. A lot of times mafia romance books have a TON of romance (not that I’m complaining) and a little bit of action. Well, this book is full of action! The action was really good too, it all felt very mafia like. There is a bit of spice in this book, but not too much and it made sense to the story line, which is exactly how I prefer it.
I can’t wait to read more of this series, and more from this author!
