Many thanks to Atria Books for the eARC of this book!
This book has left me at a loss for words, but I’m going to try to do my best here. The plot is pretty simple. Macy Mullins was looking for more work and found an ad to be a caretaker. When she goes to interview, she learns it’s really a housesitting job, and it pays VERY well. But there is an evil on the property and she is told to follow the rites. But what does that mean, and can she do it?
I enjoyed We Used to Live Here by the same author, but this book was even better! Once the set up of the book occurs, the action jumps off the pages and you’re held in complete suspense throughout the entire book. When I say I devoured this book, I devoured it. I finished it in mere hours. I couldn’t stop reading this book. The pages just kept flying by as I was reading them.
The author here creates such an atmosphere in this book, and that dark atmospheric feeling was kept through the entire book. This author makes you fell like you’re in the house with Macy. Speaking of Macy, I didn’t love her but she had to be who she was in order to make this book work.
The ending.. that ending!!!! I can’t even with that ending. I don’t even know how to react to it. I want to throw my shoe because I loved, and throw the book at the same time because WHAT??!?!?!?!?!?!?
Anyway, clearly I loved this book. And if you like horror/paranormal horror, please make sure to read this book.
