The Ghostwriter

By: Julie Clark

Ghostwriter Olivia Dumont has been asked to be the ghostwriter for author Vincent Taylor, who also happens to be her father. Back in the 1970s, Vince’s brother and sister were murdered and the case has been unsolved. While many speculated that Vince killed them, he was never charged. Olivia thinks she’s ghostwriting another one of his fiction novels, but she soon finds out that it’s more of a memoir. And Vince wants to tell the truth of what happened many years ago.

This was a very slow burn type of book. I thought it was going to be a thriller, but I guess it’s more of a mystery. I’ve seen some of the description words as horror, or suspense, but because it was such a slow burn, I didn’t feel any of those things. I didn’t feel any tension building. I wanted to. I thought the premise was great, but I think the writing style and the slow burn kind of didn’t work for me.

Olivia annoyed me a little bit. She learned that her father was sick, and would just press him too much. Yes, this was her idea and she needed to help him write, but she didn’t feel understanding or emotional about his sickness either.

I really wanted to like this book, but it fell a little short for me. I do see that I’m an outlier, so take what I say with a grain of salt. If you don’t mind slow burn mysteries, then this will be for your!
