The Lost Ones

By: Mia Sheridan

Many thanks to Over the River PR for the ARC of this book!

When he was just 7 years old, Duke witnessed his dad carrying two girls and putting them in an old mine shaft. Duke rescued these two girls, Winnie and Junie, and his father was sent to prison. Over the years, Duke, Junie, and Winnie stay in touch. And then Junie is found dead and Duke is arrested for her murder. Duke escapes from prison and is now determined to find out who really murdered Junie, because he doesn’t believe that he did it.

In this suspense book, we meet a lot of characters and read across three different timelines. Honestly, it was a little difficult to follow at times. The first two chapters started out very strong, pulling in my attention. The pace then slowed until something actually started happening. Then my attention was drawn back in and I was into the book.

There are many layers to this book, so make sure you pay attention as each of the layers is peeled back. There is a tiny bit of romance in the book, which I did enjoy, but it’s definitely not the main focus.

I was shocked by the ending of the mystery. I didn’t see it coming at all! That always makes a book just a bit better when I have no idea what direction the book is going to go in.
