“You see all my broken, obsessive pieces, and instead of trying to fix them, you just hand me better tools.”
Oakley Novak is a crime journalist, so when there’s another murder at an art gallery, she is there, looking at the scene, observing, making notes. What she doesn’t realize is that Xander Rhodes is watching her as she takes it in. He puts cameras in her apartment and spends time watching her on the notion that it’s because he wants to know how close she is to figuring out who the gallery murderer is. Then she finds the camera and Oakley recruits him to get revenge on the man that murdered her parents. The hunter and the huntee work together and now they are hunting and being hunted.
I really, really enjoyed this book. It’s a fantastic dark romance book. There is equal parts banter/wit, stalking, vigilantism, and romance. I think my favorite part had to be when Oakley found the camera and instead of freaking out, she talked right to him.
What I really enjoyed about this book is that there is a great plot here. A lot of times dark romance books are all about the spice. There IS spice in here, but it’s sprinkled throughout and not the focus of the book. There is actually a lot happening outside the relationship between Oakley and Xander. There was also a good amount of action as well, which I really loved. This book is over 400 pages and I flew through it!
I can’t wait to read the next book in this series (which is out already) and the third book comes out next year!
